- Let me tell you a story!!!

It was a wet, cold and very overcast day as Julian made his way in to the city by bus for work. Julian was feeling a little hungover from a few drinks with friends last night to celebrate his 40^th birthday and he was already feeling stressed at the thought of the report that he needed to finish and submit today at work; not having breakfast also hadn’t made for a great start to his day.

The bus seemed to be going extra slow this morning and there sure were a lot of people getting on the bus Julian thought to himself. He wrapped his coat a little tighter around himself and let his eyelids close momentarily, as his tummy made loud grumbling noises.

……….DING DING – Julian suddenly sat up straight at the sound of the bus bell and he rapidly blinked his eyes to wake himself up. As he gazed out the window, he realised he had missed his bus stop by a couple of blocks; he quickly stumbled off the bus at the next available stop with his fellow travellers.

Oh bother, Julian thought, even a short walk to the office seemed overwhelming this morning and the rain was coming down ever harder now. Rubbing his eyes Julian wondered if somehow time could just go back a couple of hours (or maybe 4 or 5!)  where he could be back at home, curled up snug in his bed and listening to the sound of the rain on his roof top.

Julian lifted his head slightly as he picked up his feet a little to start the walk to his office. A   beautiful aroma began to waffle around him; the rich warm smell of a perfectly blended coffee, Julian’s lips started to purse themselves together as that coffee smell began to get stronger around him.

Julian’s eyes caught the sign of the café he was about to pass, as his nose followed the delightful smell. Coffee & Dreams………….. ahahaaaa Julian thought to himself, this might be just what I need to shake off my early morning blues!

Opening the café door, Julian was greeted by a welcoming and cheery hello from the workers behind the counter. The café was cosy, vibrant and homely, a staff member waved him with a smile, and a menu in hand, to a table where he could sit and collect himself together and dry out a little from the rain.

Julian glanced at this watch and realised he was running late for work because of having missed the bus stop he had supposed to get off at. He quickly texted his boss to say he was on his way – and he would be bringing the team in coffees to start the day and to celebrate, as it was his actual birthday today.

Julian put in an order for his coffee (a strong expresso!) and ordered poached eggs and smashed avocado from the menu. The coffee and breaky did not take long to arrive and oh my, they sure hit the spot – fresh, flavoursome and filling. Julian could feel his mind begin to relax a little (maybe that report wasn’t going to be so daunting after all) and even his toes felt like they were beginning to have a bit of a tap in them.

The café tunes, the murmur of customer conversations, the delicious food started to get Julian thinking;……. thinking about it being his 40^th birthday, thinking about how grateful he was for where he was at in life and for his beautiful wife and children, thinking about that even though his Dad had passed only 6 months ago (he missed him so much), that in his mind he could recall many wonderful memories his Dad and him had made over the years………

……..and Julian began to DREAM of what the future held for him, of the goals he would like to still achieve, of the places he would like to see, of more precious family memories that he wanted to make…………..COFFEE&DREAMS

A short while later, leaving the café armed with takeaway coffees and some yummy muffins and cookies for his colleagues (plus lots of heartfelt well wishes from the staff for his day ahead), Julian set off with long strides to the office, a smile on his face …and the rain too had now stopped, argghhhh thought Julian this was going to be great day………..
